DNA

I was Adopted 49 years ago and decided to do a DNA test with 23 and me to try and get a health history.

When I received my results it also shows your DNA relatives and how close of a relative they are to you. Looking at these results I was able to figure out who my Birth Mother and separately who My Birth Father is .

Strangly enough they both live a hour or less away from where I live and I do not live in the state i was born in.

I am trying to decide whether to contact them or not it has been a long time and I have never had a problem being adopted other than i did not have a health history.

Any Thoughts ?

@Bulldog You do what your heart tells you to do. Only you can answer that question. Good luck and all the best to you. God Bless You.

Wow @Bulldog that’s an amazing story!

I’ve always thought of what I would do if I was in that position (I’m not adopted, just a thought)  and I would definitely want to know! Your adopted family will always have their special place in your heart, nothing can ever change that, but it would be nice to know who your birth parents are.  Whatever you decide, I wish you lots of luck!

@Bulldog I can not decide that for you. If I was in your situation I would want to know their story and why your were given up for adoption. Just to have a piece of mind and to have some kind of closure. The bond with your adoptive parents will be still the same but it is just that piece of the puzzle that you want to solve.

@Hendrika  yes i agree my parents that adopted me will always be my family and both of them are deceased now . I want to know my story I always have i think every adopted person wants to know why . I would also hate to disrupt their lives if they really want to be left alone . The thing that i Am very confused about is it looks like my Birth Mother has 7 children and my Birth Father has 3 that is something I did want growing up is siblings

There are many reasons our parents give us up for adoption, sweetheart. Should you decide to contact them, keep an open mind, and don't let anger rule. You've been there, done that.

@Sagittarius I actually have no anger towards them for giving me up if they felt they could not raise me for any reason they did the right thing. I actually would thank them for giving me to the family that raised me

@Bulldog ok,that’s one scenario, hon. Make certain you play them all through. Yet given what I’ve learned from you on here,i continue to see you as a fine person with much fortitude. I know you’ll fare well in any given conundrum, and coupled with humility.

@Bulldog This is so interesting - I am actually adopted too! I have always wondered whether to do the same but never have. I think it is completely up to you and however you feel about it. It is good that you don't feel anger towards them, I don't have anger towards mine either, they obviously did the best they could and gave you an opportunity for a better life. Let me know what you decide to do x

@Bex this is strange but the test did my ancestry and i am 99.7 percent British I never knew what i was.

@Bulldog Wouldn't it be great to be able to get to know your siblings? Whatever the story will be you will probably be glad to know the whole story so you can feel reassured and have that closure.

@Hendrika I think i am going to try and contact them and let them know I am curious but if they want to be left alone that is ok also and see where it goes from there.

@Bulldog I gave up a son for adoption many years ago! I would love it if he tried to find me. Sadly he never has!🙁

@kelceyryder  I am sure he knows you were brave and did the right thing for him . I think that my birth mother was amazing and brave to be able to make sure i had what she could not give me at the time for whatever reason she had . With all of the DNA tests out there your son might look you up one day .

No way! That’s so cool 😊

@kelceyryder is there a way you could find him? Does it work that way?

Yes you can look him up the best thing to do is take DNA tests and see what pops up . The best ones are 23 and me and also AncestryDNA

@Bulldog I think these DNA test are amazing! I watch a show called Long Lost Family and I always end up in tears by the end of it, it’s such an emotional and touching moment when the families meet up after so many years.

@kelceyryder Trust in God to bring you what you need. Things will happen when the time is right.

@Bulldog I hope it will all work out for you! Let us know. I hope you will get some piece of mind!

@Sai I am watching that show too and it always leaves me in tears too! Such amazing and touching stories. They use Ancestry too.

@Sai  i watch that show also my nephew told me about it a couple months ago

I definetly would in a heartbeat, just try to be prepared if it does not work out like you want but do it.😊

@kelceyryder why not try to contact him, he may not know how or he may be afraid to contact you.

@mariebow I think I just don’t want to upset my other family members at this point in our lives. He was given up at birth. If he wants to find me that is okay. But I won’t go after him.

Here is the update so far I got ahold of my birth fathers sister as she had done a dna test also , she did not know about me and told me her brother who would be my birth father passed away recently.

She is very nice and said she would share their family health history with me and will also show me pictures and tell me about my birth father .

We are going to meet for lunch on Saturday and get to know each other and try and decide whether to tell my birth fathers widow and my siblings about me or not .

@Bulldog That is great news! Things are working out for you! So happy for you!😀

Wow what a strange day i just got off the phone with my birth mother she talked to me for a hour and a half . None of her family knows about me she was in college and transferred to a different state to have me so no one would know . She is very nice and said she will meet up with me after Christmas . I guess we will see where it goes from there. I thanked her for giving me up and told her i never resented her for that . I am glad i was able to share that with her .

@kelceyryder  me too but either way I now know the story of why i was adopted and that means a lot to me

Oh wow @Bulldog I’m so happy for you! You’re story has really touched my heart and I’m feeling nervous about the meeting now.  Can’t wait to hear how it all goes! Wishing you the very best in this new chapter in your life 😊

Hello bulldog , Sagittarius said it best ,” It’s God’s will” search your heart and ask Him for guidance . There are no coincidence in life, things come to use, at his time.Sometimes we question things through out our journey , but remember  in the end it will all work out.
